Johnson to Attend OUA Luncheon
December 31st, 2007

Lindsey Johnson of women’s volleyball is this year’s Lakehead’s choice for the annual OUA Women of Influence Luncheon. Each university in the OUA selects a top female student-athlete to attend the luncheon to gain the knowledge, life experiences, and wisdom of the featured Woman of Influence. This luncheon also gives these future leaders a chance to meet their peers and to develop network partners for the future. This year’s event will be held in Toronto on Wed. Jan. 23rd at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and the keynote speaker is Canadian professional golfer Lori Kane.
Lindsey strives for excellence both on the volleyball and in the classroom and has posted strong academic results in her first three years in her Concurrent Education program. On the volleyball court; Lindsey is the consummate team player and is co-captain for the Thunderwolves this season. The Whitby, Ontario native led the OUA in digs and the CIS in digs/game two years ago, but changed roles last year for the team to be a setter, a position she had not played before, in order to help her team. This year she is back in her traditional role on defense and is in Top 5 in OUA dig's per game. She is also very active in the community; taking part all camps and tourneys and works in community.
Johnson said said she is very proud to be representing Lakehead and looking forward to the opportunity to meet other OUA female student-athlete leaders. “"We have many amazing student athletes here at Lakehead University. I am honoured to be chosen to represent Lakehead as their OUA Woman of Distinction. Lakehead has been very instrumental in supporting my academic and athletic goals, and for that I thank them."
Lakehead Head Coach Kathy Clouthier said Johnson is a very worthy choice. “Lakehead could not have chosen a more worthy athlete to represent them. Lindsey has been a pillar of strength for the Thunderwolves volleyball team. She has never wavered in her efforts to represent the school positively and by putting forth her very best effort. She has consistently received high marks in her Concurrent Education Program while never missing practices or the opportunities to assist at various camps, skills training, high school tournaments, or clinics for the community. Lindsey has been moved around into various positions on the volleyball floor and two years ago led the CIS in digs/game, not an easy task to do as there are numerous excellent Liberos. The team and the coaches heartily endorse this choice and say congratulations to Lindsey as this year’s selection to attend the Women of Influence luncheon representing Lakehead University."
